Vaginal Itching: Causes, Treatments, and Diagnosis

Vaginal itching or Bruciore intimo is the most common symptom of this abnormal vaginal condition. Itchiness may be especially noticeable when you’re working, exercising or sleeping. The itching is generally worse during your menstrual period or just before it. You may feel like scratching inside your vagina.

Vaginal itching can be annoying and embarrassing, but the right feminine hygiene products can help. Start with a gentle cotton liner or panty liner, which helps keep you fresh throughout the day. If you are using pads for your period, try one with odor protection or an extra absorbent overnight pad for comfort and peace of mind. In addition to these suggested products, look for a soap that is pH-balanced and clinically tested hypoallergenic so it won’t irritate sensitive skin.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), vulvar and vaginal itching are among the most common reasons women seek medical care. It is estimated that nearly three out of four women will have symptoms at some point in their lifetime. The medical term for vaginal itching or irritation is ‘pruritis vulvae’.
